Seawolves runners honored after strong season
The combined Wiscasset-Boothbay high school cross country team held its post-season awards ceremony Nov. 7 at the Boothbay Region High School gym. Twelve athletes were recognized for their 2023 performance in a strong season for the Seawolves.
The girls team won the Mountain Valley Conference (MVC) championship for the second year in a row, took third place at the Southern Maine Class C Regional Championships and had five all-conference team members with one honorable mention. The boys team was runner-up at the MVC championships and southern Maine regionals, and had three MVC all-conference selections with three honorable mentions. At the Class C State Championships, the boys won fourth and the girls took sixth. Coach Nick Scott was named MVC Coach of the Year.
At the awards ceremony, each athlete was recognized for their contributions, performance and sportsmanship. Award winners included Laura Chapman and Rodi Mayne, MVPs; Maddie Orchard and Cleyton Splaine, Coach’s Award; Karen Higgins and AJ Crocker, Rookies of the Year; Maddie Andreasen and Ross Gaffney, Most Improved; Julia Truesdell and Chase Mansfield, Hammer Award; and Emily Gilliam and Austin Trask, Competitor Award.
