Saints march out with convincing win over Boothbay
It wasn’t what Seahawk coach Dan Hallinan wanted to see in the first home game of the season.
The fast-breaking, swarming defenders and swooping rebounders St. Dominic Academy Saints dominated the Boothbay Region Seahawks, 72-28, in varsity boys basketball action at Porter Memorial Gymnasium Tuesday night, Dec. 12.
First half turnovers by the Seahawks against the Saints’ full-court zone press provided the visitors with a 14-9 lead after eight minutes. Boothbay was repeatedly held to one shot on the offensive and fell behind 33-18 at the half, with 14 of those points coming from Perryman Campbell on four 3-pointers and a 2-pointer.
The second half was all Saints as they outscored Boothbay 39 to 10, finishing off fastbreaks with layups and keeping the Seahawks from mounting any offensive threat.
Campbell finished with 20 points to lead the Saints (2-0). Three other players scored in double figures for the visitors; Kai Taylor with 17, Logan Carey with 11 and Taylor Varney with 10.
Boothbay was led by Finn Harkins with 13 points.
The Seahawks (0-2) will next host Hall-Dale on Friday, Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m.
