A lovely summer evening
Last Saturday evening, the club hosted a great gathering for skippers and crews of the Seguin Island Trophy Race. Members and families joined them on a lovely summer evening. Jen Baker and her crew did a great job in organizing the event. Refreshments were generous and the “Food Truck” was a hit. T-shirts, mugs and wineglasses were available for sale. Holly O’Shea won the first annual blueberry bake off.

Second division, 1st-Go Dog-David Ruff; 2nd-Dotsy-Carol Lloyd; 3rd-Scapa-Ryan Raber. Third division, 1st-Good to Go-Bruce Kinsey; 2nd-All That Jazz-Catherine Latta; 3rd-Rhodes Scholar-Jack Bauman. Parents and young sailors who are enjoying the new 420’s were on hand for the “Blessing of the Fleet.” Kit Sherrill opened his remarks with a bit of historical information about why this tradition has gone on for many centuries. His presentation is available for all to read in the senior building. The boats were decorated with significant greens and flowers and each boat has a name selected by a donor. The names are: Eastern Coluber, Cough Drop, Blue Sky, McHaste, Gleam, Clarissa, James , Four Sight, The Knotty Yacht, Veni Vidi Vici, Kia Ora and Tyali. Last year we had a Capital Campaign to purchase the boats and in short order, we were able to complete the funding for the purchase and future maintenance.
Our next event is the shore side lobster dinner on Saturday, August 3. You must make reservations at the club or follow the lead on the E-Blast sent out on Monday. Please make sure that you specify which seating you want. There will be no steak offering nor any kid’s meals. Grills will be set up so you may cook your own.
Keep in mind the Arts and Crafts sale August 10 and 11. This is a fundraiser for the Sailing Foundation and we would like to have new volunteers from those whose children benefit from the sailing program. The schedule asks for two hours on either Saturday or Sunday and men willing to help with the heavy lifting for an hour on Friday and Sunday at 4 p.m. for set up and break down. Please let me know if you are willing to help out. Call 633-2117.
