Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club
A brief but fun meeting included shared “Happy Dollars”, dinner, and announcements. Reminders to join us on June 6th for “Rotary Yard Clean Up” in place of our usual meeting.
This week we welcomed back author Charles (Charlie) Britton from Southport who just published his third novel, “No Heart to Kill,” under the pen name C. W. Wells. Charlie grew up here in Southport and delighted us with inspiration, laughter, and an overview of his writing journey. He began his professional life as a writer for the Bangor Daily News. He became an award-winning reporter before turning to a career in education. He coached high school football in Texas. And is now a consultant in education.
Wells' most recent thriller, “No Heart to Kill,” is the second book in the Gale McClanahan series. The first features McClanahan in “LONESTAR,” a story about treachery in pro football. Wells' debut novel, “Eight-Man Cowboy,” captures the essence of a small Maine town and has received praise from readers who enjoy sports, romance, and small-town politics. Wells' books have a growing readership, and as a writer, he enjoys giving author talks at libraries and encouraging others to write. To entice our Rotary group to think about writing, he engaged us all tonight to write down the first and the last line of a book we would write. Much laughter and some pretty darn good potential book starts were shared!
Our speaker next week will be Haley Bezon, the founder and director of “Hearty Roots,” The program aims to get kids outdoors exploring nature engaging in social and emotional learning.
The Big, Gray Rotary Barn is open every Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. You'll find all kinds of treasures at great prices, while contributing to the many projects and programs of the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club. We are accepting donations of gently used furniture, kayaks, tools, dishes, collectibles, well, just about anything for the Big, Gray Rotary Barn. Send Deb a text at 207-380-3550 for pickup or drop off plans.
