Boothbay Region YMCA Summer Camps Week of August 12: Critter Camp for 3-4 year olds, Scamper Camp for children entering Kindergarten in the fall, Camp Knickerbocker Day Camp, Y ARTS Music Theatre Camp Session 4, Half-Day Trailblazers Camp, Island Hopping and Adventure Camp.
Free tennis lessons through our Y’s Quick Start 10 & Under Tennis Program on Wednesdays throughout the summer. Quick Start is taught by Larry Rioux, tennis director at the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club. This program is designed for youth 10 years or age or under (12 years and under if a first time player).
Quick Start keeps the fun in tennis while improving stroke production all the while increasing participation because the child is actually playing tennis. Documentation supports that youth who start out in Quick Start programs are more likely to stay with the sport. Register at the Y front desk.
The 20th annual 2013 Southport Rowgatta will be held this Saturday, August 10, 8:30 a.m. start at Newagen Landing. Calling all kayakers, paddle boarders, canoers and surf boarders to journey around Southport Island in a 12-mile nautical paddle. Please pay the $35 preregistration fee at the YMCA; $40 day of registration at Newagen Landing.
YMCA’s Special Event of 2013 … Once Upon a Time with the Time Pilots. Thursday, Sept. 5: 1 p.m., Golf Tournament; 6-9 p.m., catered event with the Time Pilots (www.timepilotsband.com), Maine’s hottest band.
Registration for 2013/2014 YMCA Fit Kidz Afterschool Program begins Friday, August 2. Fit Kidz is a daily afterschool program for youth Kindergarten thru 5th grade which focuses specifically on keeping kids active and healthy all the while serving up a nutritious snack, an hour of physical activity (swimming twice a week and hikes with BRLT’s Education Director, Tracey Hall one afternoon a week along with ZUMBA, capture the flag, kickball, dodgeball, volleyball and more.
Youth are met at the school and walked across the street to the Y. The program ends at 4pm which is when the rest of the Y programs begin: soccer, flag football, Y-Arts, dance, swim lessons, etc.
For those who need extended care, it is offered until 5 p.m. This is a great chance for kids to do their homework, created art, build towers and castles with blocks, read, put together puzzles, the list goes on and on.
