American Legion Post 36
As I hope everyone knows by now, the Boothbay American Legion has a Legion baseball team, the 36ers. We have started our second season with a great team of 18 ballplayers from around the region; six from BRHS, five from Rockland, four from Lisbon, two from Lincoln Academy, and one from Brunswick. These athletes are the area high schools best of the best. Watching them play is like watching the Sea Dogs! The first game against Skowhegan was a loss, 5-1. But, with only one practice before the game, the coach had all the players play so the coaches could assess their capabilities. The last game on the 20th was postponed at the bottom of the 2nd with the 36ers ahead 4-2. The next game is the 24th, home against Cony/Augusta but will have been played by the time you read this in the newspaper. The next four games are away with the next home game July 5 against the Central Maine Eagles. Other home games are July15 and 16. The games all start at 5:30 and the snack shack is open so come, have dinner while watching great baseball! There are still raffle tickets available to win four tickets to the Red Sox vs Yankees game on July 27. A faffle ticket goes for $20 but you get four great game tickets in seats along the third base line. Tickets are available by contacting the Post at 633-4487, from Robin Ford, Chris Armstead, Dave Patch and other Legionnaires. Raffle tickets will also be available at all home games.
The Legion Community Yard Sale and Craft Fair is Aug.10. We now have plenty of storage space at the Hall to put your donations. Just put your donations in the large “garage tent” at the back of the Hall. This is a community large sale so if you want to have your own table, join us. Spread the word to friends and neighbors to join as well. While “reserving” a space by calling the Hall at 633-4497 would be helpful, it isn’t required ... just come with your table. This is also a Craft Fair so join other crafters as well.
On July 26, the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea and the Maine Bureau of Veterans Services invite Korean War Veterans who were boots on the ground from 1950 to 1953 and in country up July 1954 and their families to attend the Korean War Veterans Recognition Day at the Maine State House, Hall of Flags at 1 p.m. July 26. Pre-registration is required for veterans and/or their families to receive the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal from Kim Jae-hui, Consul General and State of Maine Veterans Recognition certificate and Korean War Challenge coin. Register by emailing mainebvs@maine.gov or calling 207-287,7020.
Another Honor Flight Maine is off to DC with 50 veterans on Friday, returning Sunday the 30th. After the Legion breakfast, go to the Jetport to be part of the Welcome Home Ceremony!
