Ocean Point Column: Socials, Horribles parade and more
Our first official week of activities was certainly a whirlwind. Thank you to Tom Cotter for his presentation on antique cars and thanks to Holly Cleary and Kate Dawson for the very well attended Ice Cream Social.
Everyone certainly seemed to have enjoyed our first porch party of the season last Friday evening. Not only did we have great food and conversation but an awesome band as well. Boogie2Shooz is always so fun to listen and dance to and they did not disappoint. Thank you to Paul and Sue Taylor and Matt and Kathy Lindley for a terrific evening.
Our annual Horribles Parade stepped off promptly at 9:30 from Grimes Cove with many participants’ creative and imaginative costumes. Jonathan and Kate Dawson did a tremendous job of organizing this year’s event, thank you. Thanks too, to our amazing band who provides us all with lots of joy and happiness. The parade is always able to bring out large crowds and this year was no exception. It was wonderful to reconnect with so many Ocean Pointers, some of whom you only see during this time of the season.
A big thanks to Stephanie Kaler and Kelly Robbins and all the volunteers for a very successful OP 5k and Fun Run last Sunday morning. Ocean Pointer Owen Dawson was the overall winner of the race and first Ocean Point male to finish; Abagail Pohl was the first Ocean Point female finisher, congratulations to them and all of the runners. More information will be forthcoming when I get the results.
Along with our weekly activities of pickleball, tennis and kids’ games there will be another educational presentation by the History Committee on Thursday night July 11 beginning at 7 at the Casino. Plan to be there to listen to Ocean Pointer John Waldman speak and answer questions about life at Ocean Point when he was growing up. John is a wealth of information regarding earlier days at Ocean Point and is kind enough to share that knowledge with all of us.
Our first Food Sale will occur on Friday, July 12 at 9:30 a.m. I know we have so many incredible chefs here at Ocean Point who will be preparing their favorite dish or dessert that you will want to purchase. Come and mingle over coffee and donuts and stock up on food items for the weekend. Barb Slayton and Ginna Yerrall are in charge of this event.
Later that day the junior tennis team will play an away match against Christmas Cove at 2:00,come out and cheer on our team. By the time you read this they will have played their first match against the Yacht Club, results of that match will be forthcoming.
