Knickerbocker Lake association annual meeting
The Knickerbocker Lake Association held its annual meeting on Monday, Aug. 12 at McEvoy Lodge at Camp Knickerbocker. Guests included John Zeigra and John Orne from the region's water district. Members received handouts including a summary of the watershed environmental study by Lauren Stockwell and town survey of possible contaminant sites by enforcement officer Art Dunlap. A discussion ensued concerning water levels and annual drawdown, along with the current status of the lake, the backup fresh water supply for the entire peninsula.
Members were updated on the Bigelow Lab/Boothbay Region High School watershed project presented on August 6 at the Cafe Scientifique led by Dr.Cindy Heil and Lauren Graham.
Concerns for phosphorous contamination led members to support extending sewer lines to Back River and Barters Island roads by writing a letter to the new comprehensive plan
committee for the town of Boothbay.
This year the Camden Conference will address the issue of water resources worldwide as a major issue in the 21st century. The region's economy is completely dependent on Adams Pond and Knickerbocker Lake. It is essential we protect these important resources. The Association exists to do this and to monitor responsible use of the major freshwater reservoirs on our peninsula. Membership is open to all.
