Lady Seahawks crushed by Ramblers
Winthrop senior Emma Spahr scored a career-high five goals as the visiting Ramblers easily defeated the Lady Seahawks field hockey team, 6-1, at Perkins Field Friday afternoon.
Spahr scored three first half goals to give the Ramblers a 3-0 lead after 30 minutes. Winthrop was not challenged in the first half as Boothbay didn’t get off a shot on goal and the Ramblers held a 9-0 advantage in penalty corners.
Boothbay defenders Sam Carter, Taylor Walby, Mackenzie Abbott and Kanisha KuyKendall were pressured thoughout the game by the quicker Ramblers.
In the second half, Kelsey Stoneton gave Winthrop a 4-0 lead at the 26:45 mark. After Spahr got her fourth goal at the 20:46 mark, Boothbay’s Nicole LaBrecque broke through and scored the Lady Seahawks’ only goal at 11:02. Spahr got her fifth goal at 5:50.
Spahr said her team played well and she hopes the Ramblers can return to the state championship game as it did in 2012.
“We’re playing pretty well so far,” said Spahr. “We’ve changed a few things from last year but it’s working out.”
Boothbay goalie Skyler Davis made six saves and Winthrop’s Alyssa Arsenault made three saves.
