End of the season
On Friday, Aug. 17, the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club Junior Program completed its 2012 summer season with a well-attended awards banquet. Gary Ferris, head instructor, presented seasons' end awards to young sailors who have excelled in various categories.
The Rudolph Giger Award for outstanding Junior Sailor was presented to Jacqueline van der Veen who also won the Maine State Opti Championship last week. The Past Commodore Byron and Margot Atwood Award was presented to Tess McComisky.
The Patsy Stevens Award was presented to the brother and sister duo of Matt and Meredith McCuskey. The West Award, originated by Stevens' father PC John West, was won by Corinne Poitras and Caroline Hunt, and the Bowden Award was won by Emma van der Veen.
Most improved in the 420 fleet was newcomer Milhous Dungan. Most improved in the morning Opti’s was Henry Currier and in the afternoon Opti’s, Hali Goodwin.

Morning Opti’s: Ben Pierce, first, Nikolai Laliberty, second, and Oksana Omelchenko, third.
Afternoon Opti's: Jaqueline van der Veen, first, Markus Russell, second, and Hali Goodwin, third.
Afternoon 420: Katherine Clark and Corinne Poitras, first, Sally McGee & Caroline Hunt, second, and Milhous Dungan & Corey Wise, third.
The Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program will continue in September with the operation of the High School Club sailing team coached by Capt. Sally Lloyd, who will start her third season. Any young sailors from the area who are of high school or junior high school age are invited to join.
