Boothbay ties Telstar in double overtime
The Boothbay Region High School girls soccer team battled Telstar at home on Wednesday, Sept. 25, in a game that went into double overtime and ended in a 0-0 tie.
The two-hour game was played all over the turf, with a lot of turnovers and scuffles for the ball. Both teams had difficulty maintaining possession, but there were moments when Boothbay’s offense settled down and started to communicate and pass well.
On defense, Chyanne Rogers and Colette Bertin were frequent interceptors near midfield, disrupting Telstar’s offense and regaining the ball for the Seahawks. Overall, Boothbay dominated the play, with 20 shots on net to Telstar’s nine. Goalkeeper Jaime Wheeler made five stops.
Coach Kim Dionne, whose cheering, encouragement and directions carried across the field, said of the match, “The Seahawks played an exciting game against the Rebels of Telstar on Wednesday afternoon. With the score still 0 to 0 after 90 minutes of play, the Seahawks brought the intensity in overtime. Sinead Miller, Cagney O’Brien, Hannah Winslow, Lindsey Buckingham, Lisa Pawlowski and Angie Perkins all had shots on goal.
“The defense worked hard to hold off the Rebels. Brenna Alley, Chyanne Rogers, Colette Bertin and Dana Greenleaf minimized Telstar’s shots on goal, aiding Jaime Wheeler to her first shut out of the season.”
Dionne said it was the Seahawks’ best offensive game of the season and the girls were a little disappointed to not secure the win. She said she is hoping for a different outcome on Saturday, Sept. 28, when the Lady Seahawks face the Wiscasset Wolverines at Wiscasset at 5 p.m.
The Lady Seahawks, who are 0-5-1 for the season will face an uphill battle against the Wolverines, who are 4-2-1.
