Lady Seahawks lose to Mountain Valley, Oak Hill
Aggression runs deep in the roster of Boothbay Region High School girls soccer team, but often shows up too late in a game to come away with a win.
During the October 10 match against Mountain Valley, the Lady Seahawks struggled in the first half to gain possession of the ball. Boothbay was down 5-0 at half time.
In the second half, a “nothing to lose” mentality must have taken hold of the Boothbay squad. After some good looks on goal, senior Hannah Winslow was able to score twice, but by that time point in the game it was too late for comeback.
Mountain Valley defeated Boothbay 7-2. Boothbay's keeper, Jamie Wheeler came up with 11 saves.
Boothbay 0, Oak Hill 3
The Lady Seahawks hosted the Oak Hill Raiders (5-5-1) on October 14. Boothbay performed better on their home turf, but fell to the Raiders, 3-0.
Leading the offensive fast breaks for Boothbay was Olivia Zaragosi. Despite the aggressive possessions, Boothbay was unable to put pressure on the opposing team's goalie.
The Lady Seahawks managed only 7 shot on goal, while the Raiders got 16 shots off on Boothbay. Wheeler had 9 saves. “Overall the team played well and showed some real improvements,” said Boothbay coach Kim Dionne. “I was definitely proud of their effort.”
With two more games left in the season, the Lady Seahawks (0-10-1) will tackle both ends of the Class C standings.
Boothbay will face the number one ranked Saints from St. Doms (10-1-1) at 3:30 p.m. on October 17 in Lewiston, and then host the team’s final game against last ranked Winthrop (0-12-1) on at 3:30 p.m. on October 21.
