Andrew Marvin is new Junior Program president
The Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club Junior Program Foundation announces the election of Andrew Marvin of Boothbay Harbor as its president replacing the retiring Rob Wheeler whose term limit has expired. The 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization has as its purpose the support of youth sailing, tennis and golf training and experience and assistance with equipment for the youth of the Boothbay Harbor Region.
This support is largely in the form of scholarship monies for participation in the instructional programs offered by the Yacht Club each summer. Scholarship monies go to area children who are not associated with the Yacht Club. One of the major focus elements of the Foundation in recent years has been the High School Sailing program, operated by BHYC in the spring and fall athletic seasons. In the fall season there were 16 participants in the sport. During this past year, over $ 20,000 was provided in support of these various programs.
The Foundation board has three members of the community at large who have no connection with the Yacht Club and they are Mark Keegan, Betty Maddocks, and the newly elected president, Andy Marvin. There are also two Yacht Club members, treasurer Tony O’Neill and secretary Mary Lou Newstead.
Funds to support the work of the foundation are secured through contributions largely made by Yacht Club members and other interested community donors.
