Get involved
Last week, our Thursday evening get-together was again well attended. I am pleased to see and meet the several new Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club members who find these Thursday evening parties a wonderful way to become more than acquainted with our seasoned members. It works both ways. This has been a banner year for new members. My involvement with the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club has been a rewarding experience over the span of several years. Get involved: you will receive more than you give.
The pinnacle event for the club year is the annual Day Afloat. Jim and Ann Hunt, with great help from their committee, did a superb and clever job last Saturday. They even got the Weather Fairy on their team: a perfect Maine summer day. The participants filled the dining room that evening for a delicious dinner and Bill Hunt, with background music from the TV program, Jeopardy, put on a PowerPoint program explaining the solution to the puzzle. I had a super time with a great crew aboard Gypsy Bear, skippered by PC’s Andy and Louise Holmes. Unfortunately we did not quite get the “Point.”
Top honors went to Jim and Karen Sutton and their crew aboard Simple Interest with second place awarded to PC Saint and Gerna St. John and their crew in T.O.T.S.
Day Afloat is a “Bittersweet Day” because it marks the ending of our summer season. But take heart: there is more left to enjoy. The decommissioning ceremony occurs this Sunday at 1700 hrs. followed by the closing buffet at 1800 hrs. The Bridge Group and the more and more popular mahjongg folks continue into September. The post season Thursday evening socials continue with a “bring your own hors d’oeuvres” format – see you around the campus kids.
