Boothbay track teams out front again in Wiscasset
The Boothbay Region High School track teams headed back to Wiscasset for the second time in seven days to square off against Monmouth, Hall-Dale, Richmond and Wiscasset on May 6.
BRHS had another excellent day, with both teams placing first overall.
“Tuesday at Wiscasset was another impressive night for the Seahawks as we swept the meet. It is the first time in a long time (possibly ever) that the boys' and girls' teams won the same meet,” Coach Nick Scott said. “Halfway through our regular season the only team that we have lost to is Lisbon. More importantly we now have numerous athletes who have qualified for both the conference and state championships.”
To date, 21 boys and 12 girls from the BRHS track team have earned the right to compete at the Mountain Valley Conference championship meet and eight boys and eight girls have qualified for the State Class C championship meet.
On May 6, Morgan Crocker again led the scoring taking first place in each of her four events for a total of 32 points. Other top women scorers were Nell Anthony with 20 points, Sophia Thayer, 16 points, Angie Perkins, 14.5 points and Sinead Miller,11.5 points. BRHS women squeaked by Monmouth by three points; BRHS won with 135 points, followed by Monmouth, 132, Hall-Dale 60, Richmond, 17 and Wiscasset, 6.
“Morgan Crocker continued her impressive season by once again winning four different events. She has now automatically qualified for states in the long and triple jumps, as well as the 300m and 100m hurdles,” Scott said, “Sophia Thayer also had a good night, as she beat a formidable opponent in both the 1600m and the 3200m runs. Her times qualify her for states in both events.”
For the men, Abel Bryer led the scoring with 14 points, followed by Joey Paolillo, 12 points and Shane Johnson, Benn Scully, Dima Gosselin and Nick Kilgus, all with 10 points. The boys also won by three points but this time besting Hall-Dale. BRHS finished first with 123 points, followed by Hall-Dale, 120, Monmouth 81, Richmond, 21 and Wiscasset, 11.
“Freshman Joey Paolillo had a good night and qualified for the state meet in two distance events,” Scott said. “Nick Kilgus is quickly becoming one of the best jumping athletes that we have had in years and our two race walkers, Morgen Wilson and Kyle Alamo both qualified for states while setting new PRs.”
