High school sailing team wins big

The Boothbay Region High School Sailing team has scored its first ever statewide team event win this past weekend, May 17-18.
Sponsored by the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club and coached by BHYC Junior Sailing Director Sally Lloyd, the team took first place finishing ahead of Chevrus/Falmouth, University of New Hampshire, Bay View of Rhode Island, Portland and a Southern Maine Development team in an event held at Sail Maine in Portland.
Sailors representing our region included Myron Hahn, Liam Collina, Hayden Wright, Maddie Gaudette, Nate Graves, Ben Betts and Corinne Poitras.
The victorious team competed in the traditional 420 class two person sailboats which respond excitedly to various wind conditions and represent a real challenge to the skills and experience of the youthful sailors.
