Black Bears prevail, 30-12
The Maranacook Black Bears scored two touchdowns late in the second half to break open a close game and they went on to defeat the Boothbay Region High School Seahawks, 30-12, Friday night at Sherman Field.
Boothbay battled Maranacook in the first half of the homecoming game, trailing only 16-12 after 24 minutes. Boothbay scored on a 73-yard run in the first quarter by Cormac Miller and a one-yard plunge by Kameron Markee. Boothbay missed its extra-point kick after the first touchdown and a pass for two points after their second TD was incomplete.
A holding call against Boothbay was a key play in the fourth quarter as the Seahawks had driven to within eight yards of the goal line. The play pushed Boothbay back to the 28-yard line where two incomplete passes were followed by a fumble. Maranacook went on to score two more touchdowns to secure the win.
The Seahawks, coming off a 50-0 win over Sacopee Valley last week, fall to 1-3 on the season.
