Special Olympians head to 2014 USA Games
On June 13, five Special Olympians departed Boothbay Region Elementary School for Princeton, New Jersey to compete in the 2014 USA Games with their coach, Toby LeConte.
Athletes who wished to compete needed to had won a previous gold medal and submit an application. A total of 57 athletes were chosen to attend the games, ranging in age from 11 to 78 years old.
The five Special Olympians from the Boothbay area are Thomas Wilcox, 14, competing in aquatics/swimming; Joey Ranco, 29, competing in aquatics/swimming; Donny Dunning, 25, competing in aquatics/swimming; Brenda LeConte, 42, competing in basketball; and Ronda LeConte, 47, competing in basketball.
Games will take place through the June 19.
