Boys win, girls second at Thomaston meet
Eighth grader Joey Paolillo and seventh grader Kyle Ames finished first and third, respectively, to lead the Boothbay Region Elementary School boys' cross-country team to victory at a meet held at Oceanside West School in Thomaston on September 13.
The Boothbay Region Elementary School girls finished second at the meet and were led by sixth grader Faith Blethen, who finished fourth overall, and sixth grader Helen Hamblett, who finished ninth overall.
Ten boys and girls teams competed on the 2.3-mile course. Camden (61 points) finished second behind Boothbay Region Elementary School (46 points) in the boys meet and Camden (23 points) won the girls meet (Boothbay Region Elementary School had 57 points). Other than Oceanside, Boothbay and Camden, schools competing were Lincolnville, Searsport, Medomak, Appleton, Great Salt Bay, Troy Howard and Isleboro.
Paolillo (15:10) edged Camden's Caleb Love-Webb by five seconds (15:15) and Ames finished with a time of 15:21. Other point scorers for the Boothbay Region Elementary School boys included sixth grader Blake Erhard (8th, 16:17), seventh grader Jay Hasch (11th, 16:32) and seventh grader Sam Burnham (24th, 17:07).
Blethen (16:48) finished two seconds behind third place finisher Brianna White-Ortiz of Oceanside (16:46) and Hamblett finished with a time of 17:48. Winning the girls meet was Emma Trapani of Camden (16:27). Other Boothbay Region Elementary School top finishers included eighth grader Willow Beavis (15th, 18:24), sixth grader Olivia Paolillo (16th, 18:25) and seventh grader Lincoln Hamblett (17th, 18:28).
