Lady Seahawks attend Gold Rush camp, up next is 'Lobster Jam'
The Boothbay Region High School Lady Seahawks basketball team has had a sizzlin' summer of hoops. Twenty-two girls have been participating throughout the summer, sacrificing beach time for court time to ensure winter success in pursuit of the illustrious gold ball.
This past weekend, a group of nine BRHS players attended Gold Rush team camp at Colby College. Gold Rush, in its 17th season, is the premier team camp in Maine. This edition was the largest camp in Gold Rush history with 32 teams competing. The Lady Seahawks played 10 games in a 3-day span. Camp highlights included: speaker Lee Goldberg from WCSH 6 presenting on the impact of social media for student-athletes; Hannah Morley being named to the Gold Rush All-Star Team; and the Lady Seahawks advancing to the semifinal round of the "Midnight Madness" tourney, the furthest the program has ever gone.
Next up for the Lady Seahawks is hosting the 4th Annual Lobster Jam on July 25 and 26. Sixteen teams will compete over the two-day stretch with 27 total games being played. Invites have been extended out to all teams statewide, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. The tourney features some top notch basketball programs all vying to be crowned the Lobster Jam champs.
The Lady Seahawks will be competing in three games of pool play:
Friday, July 25: 6:30 p.m vs. Hermon
Saturday, July 26: 9 a.m. vs. Newfound, N.H., 5:15 p.m. vs. South Portland
If they win their pool the team advances to the championship round, the semifinal at 7 p.m. and the championship at 8:30 p.m.
All Lobster Jam games will be held at BRHS and BRES. For the full schedule, visit tannergrover.wix.com/ladyseahawkshoops
