Boothbay edged by Traip
Senior running back Cory Aldecoa scored two second-quarter touchdowns and the Ranger defense held Boothbay to under 150 yards total offense as the Traip Academy football team remained undefeated with a 14-0 win at Sherman Field in Boothbay Harbor Friday night, Sept. 28.
Aldecoa scored on a two-yard run with 10:05 remaining in the second quarter after Boothbay fumbled on their own 35-yard line. The extra-point run, after the six-play scoring drive, was stopped by Boothbay.
The Traip running back made it 12-0 with 4:19 to play in the quarter as he rambled 57 yards on a sweep around the left end. The two-point conversion pass from Ranger quarterback Chris Czachor to wide receiver Atencio Martin was completed to make the score 14-0.
Several motion penalties by Traip throughout the rainy night gave Boothbay a chance to pull off the upset, but the Rangers came up with key stops when they needed them.
Boothbay's longest drive of the evening was for about 45 yards on seven plays in the fourth quarter, before Traip stopped them on downs.
Defensively for Boothbay, senior linebacker Cormac Miller had a fumble recovery and an interception.
Boothbay dropped to 1-4 with the loss.
