BRES cross-country teams compete well at home, away meets
Coach Hildy Johnson is receiving good efforts from her cross-country teams this season.
At home on September 20, Johnson's Boothbay Region Elementary School boys and girls teams won their respective meets, and on September 27, both teams placed second at a meet held at Great Salt Bay School in Damariscotta.
The boys' team, led by eighth grader Joey Paolillo who finished first overall, saw little competition at home as the first four runners across the finish line were BRES Wildcats. Other teams competing on the 2.3-mile BRES course were Searsport, Great Salt Bay and Medomak. Finishing second through tenth, respectively, were Kyle Ames (B), Blake Erhard (B), Jay Hasch (B), Devin Fairbrother (S), Miles Martin (S), Maxwell Webster (S), Sam Burnham (B), Sam Russ (GSB), and Will Lebrecque (B).
Sixth grader Faith Blethen of BRES won the girls meet, followed by teammates Helen Hamblett, second; Willow Beavis, third; and Olivia Paolillo, fourth. Finishing fifth through tenth were: Paige Ireland (S), Breanna Brown (S), Lincoln Hamblett (B), Mary Brenna Catos (S), Evy Case (B) and Naomi Kihn (M).
At Great Salt Bay
The Belfast boys and the Camden/Rockport girls won the meets held at Great Salt Bay, with the BRES boys coming in a close second (Belfast 32, BRES 37) on the 2.3-mile course.
Joey Paolillo won the boys meet as he edged Caleb Love of Camden. Other top finishers for BRES were Kyle Ames (third), Blake Erhard (seventh), Jay Hasch (eleventh) and Sam Burnham (fifteenth).
Faith Blethen finished second overall in the girls meet, while teammates Helen Hamblett (tenth), Willow Beavis (eleventh), Olivia Paolillo (twelth) and Lincoln Hamblett (thirteenth) all scored for Boothbay.
Coach Johnson said this meet was a good indicator on what her runners must do to try and overtake Belfast and Camden in the Busline League Championships on October 18 at Camden.
