Boothbay, Dirigo tie 2-2
Boothbay battled to its second double overtime draw of the season as the Seahawks and Dirigo Cougars field hockey teams remained tied, 2-2, after 60 minutes of regulation and 16 minutes of overtime at Perkins Field, BRHS on Wednesday, October 1.
The Seahawks (4-5-2) have played three double overtime games this season and Wednesday's game was the second one in a week, with Boothbay winning at home against St. Dom's on September 26.
Dirigo (3-6-2) has goalie Morgan Morrow to thank for the team not suffering a loss as she stopped 33 of Boothbay's 35 shots on goal. Morrow was not afraid to leave the goal and she made several kick saves from 10 to 15 yards from in front of the net.
And Boothbay has junior Samantha Carter to thank for connecting on a 20-yard shot into the goal with just 48 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 2-2.
Boothbay freshman Sydney Meader gave Boothbay a 1-0 first half lead with a drive into the net from about five feet away with 15:11 on the clock.
A second half goal Lauren Henderson at 8:59 gave the visitors the lead until Carter's tying goal. Dirigo had tied the game early in the second half when Kelsey Hutchinson scored at the 22:35 mark.
Boothbay will travel to Winthrop (4-3-2) on Monday, October 6. The Seahawks and Ramblers tied, 3-3, at BRHS on September 12.
The Seahawks will finish the regular season with two home games, hosting Hall-Dale on October 8 and Telstar on October 10 in the annual homecoming and senior game.
