Seahawks crush Ramblers for second win
The Seahawks offensive line pounded, pounded, and pounded some more away at Winthrop and earned a 47-18 football victory over the Ramblers October 5.
In earning their second win of the season, for the first time in 4 years, the Seahawks defeated someone besides Sacopee Valley. They did it in a very convincing manner as they churned up over 400 yard on the ground behind an offensive line, led by Linc Simmons.
The host Ramblers came in with two victories and gained the early momentum with the first score of the game, a five-yard touchdown pass from Jared Harrison to Dakota Carter with 9:24 remaining in the first half. The kick was no good.
The Seahawks quickly responded with a seven play, 59-yard drive that was capped with a six-yard touchdown run for Kameron Markee, his first of three scores on the day. After a pass interference was called on the two-point try, the second attempt failed with an incomplete pass.
The Boothbay defense had stopped Winthrop on just three plays and forced a punt, but a fumble on the return turned the ball back over to the Ramblers and they capitalized as Harrison hit Mario Meucci in the right corner of the end zone for a 12-6 lead.
A 25-yard kickoff return by Julian Aponte gave the Seahawks good field position before Cormac Miller carried the ball three times for 43 yards setting up an 18-yard touchdown run by Markee, who also rushed for the two points that gave Boothbay a 14-12 lead at the half.
With their first possession of the second half, the Seahawks took little time to show their dominance on the ground as Miller, aided by a great block by Jesse Peters, took the third play from scrimmage 63 yards for a touchdown. Xavier Downing added the extra point as the Seahawks led 21-12.
The Seahawks continued to shut down Winthrop with key plays on defense and just kept rolling on offense. Quarterback Nick Kilgus hooked up with Markee on a 15-yard scoring toss to cap a 12-play drive with 1:42 left in the third quarter. Downing again kicked for the point as the rout was on.
Miller added his second touchdown on a four-yard run and Jason Maddocks sprinted 31 yards for a touchdown to conclude the scoring.
With still a shot at postseason, the Seahawks will need to be at their best on Saturday afternoon (1:30 p.m.) as they travel to Winslow for a must win game against a perennial powerhouse.
