BRES finishes cross-country season strong
On Oct. 9, the Boothbay Region Elementary School Middle School Cross Country teams traveled to Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast for a preview of what was in store for them for the following weekʼs championship meet.
Running against six schools on the 2.1 mile trail, Boothbayʼs Blake Erhard placed second with a time of 12:47 behind his major competitor this season, Great Salt Bayʼs Sam Russ, with a time of 12:39.
Brendan Moline from Belfast placed third with a time of 13:00. Following Blake for Boothbay were Rowan Kristan in 11th place (14:48), Christopher Hamblett in 13th place (14:22), Tim Chapelle in 14th place (14:26), Will Labrecque in 15th place (14:33), Ryan Russell in 19th place (14:45), Will Perkins in 22nd place (14:56), Jonathan Genrich in 24th place (15:07), Bayly Gaughan in 27th place (15:23), Kaleb Ames in 36th place (16:13), Jamie LaBrecque in 38th place (16:20), Ethan Barter in 43rd place (16:49.) and Mitchell Partner in 61st place (18:36).
The girls took to the trails next with Faith Blethen (along with her broken wrist) leading the Boothbay girls team placing third with a time of 14:15 behind Camdenʼs Grace Iltis (14:05) and first place finisher, Augusta Stockman with an impressive time of 13:13. Following Faith for Boothbay were: Glory Blethen in 4th place (14:31), Haley Abbott in 6th place (14:44), Rachel Gentry in 10th place (15:12), Loren Genrich in 16th place (16:10), Marissa Peters in 23rd place (16:38), Ella Yentsch in 24th place (16:54), Duyen Nguyen in 36th place (18:39), Ashely Ames in 37th place (18:40), Zada Smith in 41st place (19:14), and Sophia Gudroe in 45th place (19:37).
By the end of an impressive day of running the BRES boys and girls placed second behind Camden Rockport Middle School. They knew theyʼd have to work hard for the following weekʼs championship.
Unfortunately, the highly anticipated Busline Championship Cross Country Meet was rained out on Oct. 16, but was held on a beautiful running day on Monday, Oct. 20 with nine schools competing, this time in Belfast.
Boothbay Region Elementary School runners brought their talent and adrenaline to the 2.1 mile trail and both teams came away with runner-up trophies.
Faith Blethen placed second overall with a time of 13:54 behind Camden Hillsʼ Augusta Stockmanʼs impressive time of 13:02. These two have had a healthy competition all season and they both improved their times of the previous week. We wish them both the best as they run forward to high school.
Boothbayʼs next top six scorers were Glory Blethen placing 4th (14:28), Haley Abbott: 5th (14:39), Rachel Gentry: 11th (15:22), Loren Genrich: 16th (16:02), Marissa Peters: 21st (16:35), Ella Yentsch: 25th (16:45). Team scores for girls were: Camden 1st with 28 points, Boothbay: 2nd with 38 points, Lincolnville: 3rd with 64 points, Belfast: 4th with 123 points, Appleton: 5th with 144 points and Great Salt Bay: 6th with 168 points. Other schools did not have enough runners to qualify.
Blake Erhard placed third overall in the boysʼ championship with a time of 12:52 behind Belfastʼs Brendan Molinʼs second place finish (12:44) and Great Salt Bayʼs Sam Russʼ impressive 12:23 finish.
These three runners also move on to high school. We wish them the best as weʼre sure to see the competition continue.
Following Blake scoring for Boothbay were: Rowan Kristan placing 8th (13:54), Christopher Hamblett: 13th (14:12), Tim Chapelle: 14th (14:27), Ryan Russell: 16th (14:34), Will LaBrecque: 20th (14:51), and Will Perkins: 23rd (15:02).
Team scores for the boys were: Camden: 1st with 42 points, Boothbay: 2nd with 54 points, Lincolnville: 3rd with 78 points, Great Salt Bay: 4th with 108 points, Belfast: 5th with 110 points, Oceanside: 6th with 148 points, Medomak: 7th with 180 points and Appleton: 8th with 225 points. Other schools did not have enough runners to qualify.
Coach Hildy Johnson wishes to thank all the runners for their dedication and hard work this season.
“These kids came to every meet enthusiastic and willing to put their best on the trail and they again proved that hard work pays off,” Johnson said. “I would also like to thank the parents and fans for their support, and the BRHS team, BRES colleagues and parents that helped to run our successful home meet. I am sending BRHS Coach Nick Scott some impressive runners, so weʼll be able to keep on watching them run! Go Boothbay!”
