Ghost adventure benefits holiday gift drive
Guests at a Halloween weekend overnight ghost hunt will be invited to party with Myrtle, a lively spirit that haunts the Tipsy Butler Bed & Breakfast and the Newcastle Publick House, according to reports. Both buildings are located in Newcastle.
A powerful personality in life, Myrtle Gascoigne is still thought to be asserting her will at the buildings where she once had a business and another where she lived and died.
The owners and employees of the Tipsy Butler Bed & Breakfast and the Newcastle Publick House believe she is, and have stories of her ghostly manifestations, which is why Damariscotta-based Mysterious Destinations has made arrangements for Visiting with Myrtle on Saturday, Oct. 27.
A portion of the proceeds from the events will benefit Lincoln County Holiday Wishes, a local food and gift drive best known for the pink and blue wish tags that are displayed every Christmas season.
The adventure includes two paranormal explores, one at the Newcastle Publick House (where Myrtle once had an antique business) and the other at the Tipsy Butler B&B (where she once lived). The adventure includes dinner at the Publick House and an overnight stay at the Tipsy Butler B&B.
The spirit of Myrtle Gascoigne is well known at the Tipsy Butler B&B and the nearby Publick House. In fact, her manifestations are so common that the owners and most employees at these two businesses usually take them in stride.
She has become more active lately, according to Sarah Davison-Jenkins, one of the owners of the Tipsy Butler.
“A guest arrived late, put his bags in his room and then came back downstairs to get some ice from the dining room. Most of the lights were off but there was a female figure standing by the Butler's Room door.
“He asked if she knew where the ice was and followed her into the dining room. He got his ice, and when he turned to say thank you and there was nobody there,” Davison-Jenkins said.
The Publick House will be the site of an elegant dinner from a special menu and an explore of the basement area to search for evidence of paranormal activity.
The group will then return to the Tipsy Butler B&B for a party with Myrtle, celebrating her life and legacy at the location. The owners of the Tipsy Butler will engage in general discussion of Myrtle’s life in the building, her death there, and her continued presence there. A full Paranormal Explore with equipment will then be done of the entire house.
There is very limited availability for this event (the Tipsy Butler only has 4 rooms), and the price varies based on the room the guest would like to stay in. For more information or reservations, call 207-380-4677, email mysteriousdestinations@gmail.com or go to www.mysteriousdestinations.com.
