Dolphins compete in Waterville
The Boothbay Region YMCA Dolphins participated in their third swim meet of the season in Waterville against the Mid Maine Dolphins on Saturday, Dec. 20. Boothbay had 30 swimmers registered in events and was looking forward to some fast swims with both swimmers and coaches working hard all week to prepare for the meet.
Boothbay had some stellar swims including our biggest Time Bandit (swam faster than previous time) of the meet, Samantha Carter, who took off 29.82 seconds in her 200 Freestyle and came in fourth place. Our second biggest Time Bandit was Callan Eason in her 100 Freestyle taking off 14.70 seconds and coming in third place. Callan was chasing the leader of the pack Arden Carleton who came in second place and took off 1.67 in her 100 Freestyle. Arden also took off 3.85 seconds in her 50 Fly and with Callan chasing her once again for a 1, 2 Boothbay finish.
In the boys events we had Gryffin Kristan coming in first place in his 100 Freestyle and taking off a whopping 10.29 seconds. Kristan also swam the 50 Fly and took off 1.13 seconds and coming in first place again. Ethan Barter swam the 50 Breaststroke where he took off 3.57 seconds and swam the 100 Freestyle and cut 2.40, placing sixth and fifth place, respectively. Duncan Hardwick swam three individual events and cut time on all three. Hardwick swam the 25 Fly taking off 2.83 seconds and placing first. He swam the 50 Free placing second and taking off 5.90 seconds. His last event was the 25 Breaststroke taking off 1.19 seconds and finishing first yet again.
Boothbay is a growing team with many young and new swimmers. One of our newest swimmers, Henry Landemare, has only been swimming with us for a few very short weeks. He stepped up to the plate and swam three brand new events for the first time including a relay. The relay finished first with a time of 3:35.56.
Another newcomer who did a terrific job is Anna Elizarkov. Anna swam the 25 Free taking off 3.77 seconds and the 25 Back taking off an incredible 10.64 seconds. Anna also swam the 50 Free for the first time ever taking third place.
Coaches and parents couldn’t have been more pleased with the awesome performances at the meet!
