Lady Seahawks win a close one, 40-36
Strong first and last quarters gave the Boothbay Region Lady Seahawks girls varsity basketball team enough breathing room to pull out a low-scoring basketball game, 40-36, against the Mountain Valley Falcons Tuesday night at Boothbay Region High School.
Boothbay jumped out to a 13-5 lead after eight minutes behind Morgan Crocker's six points and Page Brown's five points.
Mountain Valley, now 2-3, didn't quit, as Liza White scored six points and the Falcons only trailed at half-time, 20-15.
The visitors cut into Boothbay's lead and were looking to give Boothbay (5-0) its first loss, as they narrowed the host's lead to two, 29-27, going into the final eight minutes. The Falcons' Sydney Petre scored eight out of Mountain Valley's 12 points in the third quarter.
In the final quarter, Page Brown scored six points and the Lady Seahawks managed to hold onto the win.
Brown led Boothbay with 13 points, followed by Crocker with 11 and Sara Durgan with eight.
Petre led the Falcons with 13 points and White added 10 points.
The Lady Seahawks were scheduled to travel to Bethel on December 30 for a rescheduled game against Telstar and they will host St. Dom's on Friday, Jan. 2.
