Lady Seahawks end soccer season 1-13
The Lady Seahawks soccer team was shut out, 5-0, at their last game of the season Monday, October 15 against Mt. Abram's Roadrunners. This game marked the fourth consecutive game in which the Seahawks were unable to score.
However, the Seahawks' strong defense prevented the Roadrunners from scoring more than one goal in the first half. Roadunner A. Hardey scored the only first half goal. In the second half, A. Lopez scored three goals and L. Beane scored the final goal.
Boothbay had eight shots on goal compared to Mt. Abrams' 20.
The Seahawks had two goalies in this game, Mikayla McFetridge with 11 saves, and Courtney Brewer with 4. The Roadrunner's goalie, K. Collins, had 6 saves.
Oak Hill
The Oak Hill Lady Raiders shut out the Seahawks, 4-0, October 11 in Boothbay. This was the first year Boothbay played against this Class C team. All four of the Raider goals were scored during the second half of the game by G. Green, A. Rouleau, J. Morneaut, and one unidentified player. However, thanks to the skills of the Seahawks and goalie McFetridge, all 28 of the Raiders' shots on goal did not turn into further scoring.
“The defense showed outstanding teamwork. The team was aggressive and communicated well through out the whole game. Strong accurate passes gave way to some great breakaways, but unfortunately the Raiders were able to save all the shots on goal,” Boothbay Coach Katie Hossler said.
McFetridge had 27 saves and K. Collins had 5. Boothbay had 10 shots on goal.
St. Doms
The last home game October 9 against St. Doms' Lady Saints ended in the Seahawks being shut out, 7-0, on Sherman Field. The Saints' three goals in the first half were by C. Costello (1) and E. Byrne (2). Bryne scored again in the second half with K. McLellan (1), J. Voon (1) and one other unidentified Saint each adding a goal.
The Saints had 28 shots on goal while the Seahawks had 10. McFetridge saved 20 and Saints goalie K. Poomperleau had 9.
“The Seahawks took on a highly skilled team when they went up against St. Doms for their senior game last Monday. Alison Cook and Mikayla McFetridge, the team's two seniors, both played with determination. Alison has shown such growth during this first year of playing. Mikayla continues to demonstrate outstanding goalie skills. Both girls will be sadly missed next year,” Hossler said.
Despite ending the season 1-13, with the lone win coming against Winthrop, Hossler remained positive about her team.
“The girls did a tremendous job going up against some very tough teams this season. I am proud of their hard work, determination and positive attitudes,” Hossler said.
