Boothbay girls roll on, now 8-0
The second-seeded Boothbay Region High School Lady Seahawks basketball team got three more wins over the past week to improve to 8-0 on the season.
On December 29, the team won a hard-fought battle at Lisbon, 43-35. Freshman Page Brown led the Lady Seahawks with 13 points, while senior Morgan Crocker added 12. Senior Sara Durgan had nine points and sophomore Cagney O'Brien added seven. Lisbon fell to 1-5 on the season.
"We didn't execute particularly well, but managed to hang on for the win in a very tough gym to play in," said Coach Tanner Grover.
At Telstar in Bethel the next day, the Lady Seahawks crushed the winless Rebels, 65-19. Brown again led Boothbay with 20 points, followed by Crocker with 14 and Durgan with 11.
"Telstar was a much different opponent than Lisbon. It provided an opportunity for everyone to get some quality time and contribute (nine players scored). Every player played roughly half the contest, and everyone had moments. It was good to see," said Coach Grover.
On Friday, Jan. 2, Boothbay jumped out to a 33-8 lead at halftime and cruised to a 50-29 victory over St. Dom's (1-5).
Brown, with 14 points, again led Boothbay, followed by Crocker with 13, Durgan with nine and O'Brien with eight.
Faith Grady of St. Dom's led all scorers with 20 points.
"We have some tough competition moving forward, with Oak Hill and Dirigo still unbeaten. We look forward to the challenge and will learn more about ourselves after next week.
Boothbay is scheduled to play Oak Hill on Monday, Jan. 5 and at Dirigo on Thurday, Jan. 8.
