The Seahawks fell from the ranks of the unbeaten on Friday, Jan. 9 in Dixfield as the Dirigo Cougars won a battle of momentum swings to come out on top, 73-66.

Leading by as many as six in the third period after a pair of John Hepburn baskets, the Seahawks had many open possessions caused by unforced turnovers. The back breaker for Boothbay came at the end of the third period when the Cougars hit back-to-back three-pointers to take a five-point advantage into the final period.

An 8-2 run to open the fourth gave Dirigo a seemingly comfortable 11-point lead. But the Seahawks continued to battle and eventually cut the lead to four with 1:40 remaining; but Riley Robinson was unshaken at the free throw line for Dirigo, finishing with 15 points at the line.

The Seahawks, as is usually the case, again had to battle serious foul problems but managed to cope very well in the first half as several needed contributions of the bench gave the visitors a one-point lead after two periods. Nick Burge had a hoop to open the second period and Aaron Dickinson added a three-pointer to the mix while Nick Gorey was four for four from the line.

There was no scoring for the first two minutes of the third period but the Seahawks were the first to get on the board when John Hepburn found Nick Kilgus for an easy hoop and Hepburn followed with a pair from the line before the Cougars' Cameron Turner connected on a three-pointer. Hepburn got inside for back-to-back hoops to give Boothbay the aforementioned six-point lead.

The three-pointer is always a big part of the Dirigo offense and this Friday night on the shores of the Androscoggin would be no different. Kaine Hutchins buried a three-pointer to start a 6-0 run as the Cougars tied the game. Hepburn would set up Kilgus again but the two three-pointers at the end of the period, one by Clay Sweet and one by Gavin Hebert, gave Dirigo a five-point lead going into the final period.

Robinson drove to the bucket for a deuce and added two free throws to start an 8-2 run that would propel the Cougars into an 11-point lead.

John Hepburn attempted to carry the Seahawks on his back as the senior scored 11 points the rest of the way on a night he finished with 22 (after again missing most of the first half with two personal fouls).

Julian Aponte added 13 points for the Seahawks and Abel Bryer nine. For Dirigo, Robinson finished with 20 with Sweet adding 18.

Seahawks vs. Mustangs

After suffering their first loss, the Seahawks got back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 13 with a 70-45 victory over the visiting Monmouth Mustangs. After Monmouth got on the board first, John Hepburn put back his own miss followed by two free throws and a fast break hoop by Jacob Leonard. Monmouth cut the lead to 6-4 before Evan Hepburn turned a steal into two points. A pair of hoops by the Mustangs tied the score but six points from John Hepburn and a putback by Abel Bryer gave the Seahawks a six-point lead after eight minutes.

Joseph DiMauro opened the second period with a hoop followed by a three-point play by Leonard and a hoop by Nick Gorey. A late three-pointer by Nick Burge was followed by an even later one and longer one as Evan Hepburn banked one in from three-quarters court at the buzzer to give Boothbay a 33-18 lead at the break.

Monmouth cut the lead to 12 early in the third period but a 10-3 run by the Seahawks that included four points from DiMauro ended any upset hopes the visitors may have had.
John Hepburn led the scoring for Boothbay with 15 points with Leonard adding 13 and DiMauro 10.

Seahawks vs. Saints

On Wednesday, Jan. 7 the Seahawks played host to St. Doms and came away with an 82-28 victory after leading 38-9 after one half. Evan Hepburn led the well balanced attack with 14 points. John Hepburn added 12, Aaron Dickinson 11 and Joseph DiMauro 10.

The Seahawks have a huge game on tap for Thursday night when they travel to take on number one seeded Winthrop.
