Pac-Man in the streets of Boothbay Harbor!
Right now I’m dashing down Commercial Street cramming as many pellets as I can down my little yellow flapper.
As I dart through Townsend Avenue, guess what’s waiting for me at the footbridge? Four multi-colored ghosts are keeping tabs on my ravenous tendencies.
Their names are “Inky, “Blinky,” “Pinky” and “Rusty Court,” I think.
Our little coastal town has been transformed into a flickering arcade game thanks to Google Maps.
Today, April 1, Google is giving users the option to play Pac-Man from any street map in the world.
So you think the streets of Boothbay Harbor are no match for your superior Pac-Man skills. No problem. Try maneuvering through the Squirrel Island cart paths — or better yet, the Arc of Triumph. Your skills will go out of style faster than your stonewashed jeans.
So thank you Google for giving the arcade game I grew up with some local flavor. I wonder what’s in store for next year? Could lobster traps turn into Tetris blocks? Could casks of Boothbay Craft Ale be the world’s most dangerous Donkey Kong? We’ll just have to wait and see.
In the meantime, enjoy April Fools’ Day!
