Storm disrupts MVC track championship
Stormy weather precipitated a premature end to the Mountain Valley Conference track meet on May 28. The meet was scheduled to resume on Monday, June 1, but was canceled due to rainy conditions. The conference meet was rescheduled to resume Tuesday, June 2 in Lisbon.
Results are not available but Coach Nick Scott provided details on Thursday’s completed events.
“We had some great overall performances,” Coach Nick Scott wrote in an email. “Morgan Crocker repeated as 100m hurdle champion, in a blistering time of 16.73! Sinead Miller also ran a PR in the event and placed 7th scoring a point for the team.
“The boys’ 4 x 800m team recorded the second fastest time in school history while placing 3rd (it was a fast race this year). Lisa Pawlowski placed 4th and Angie Perkins placed 5th in the high jump.
“It was a big night for our shot putters. Antonio Maulolo threw a PR, placing 3rd; Abel Bryer threw a PR, placing 6th, and Lucas Leighton threw a PR, placing 7th.
“In the discus, Shane Johnson threw a season PR to place 3rd, while freshman Connor Demmons made the finals (not easy to do for a freshman boy).
“Finally, the race walkers had a big night; Kyle Alamo placed 2nd, Morgen Wilson placed 6th, and Chris Groneng walked a PR and placed 7th.”
The MVC championship meet was scheduled to resume at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2 at Lisbon. Because of the MVC rescheduling, Boothbay’s freshmen will be unable to compete at the freshmen meet scheduled for Tuesday, June 2 at Bowdoin.
On Saturday, June 6, the Seahawks will travel to Yarmouth High School to compete in the Maine Class C State Championship meet. The day-long event begins at 10 a.m.
