An aging rocker, a ‘novel’ heroine, life reflections above and below the sea
At The Harbor Theatre
Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (George Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as Tomorrowland. “Tomorrowland” plays at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3 and Thursday, June 4 at 7 p.m.
“Far From the Madding Crowd” is based on Thomas Hardy’s classic 1874 novel. This is the story of independent, beautiful and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan), who attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak, (Matthias Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching willfulness; Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge), a handsome and reckless sergeant; and William Boldwood (Michael Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor.
This is the fourth screen adaptation of Hardy's novel. In 1967, Julie Christie starred in John Schlesinger's version with Alan Bates as Oak, Terrence Stamp as Troy and Peter Finch as the farmer. The film won the National Board of Review award as “Best Picture.”
“Far From the Madding Crowd” plays at 7 p.m. Friday, June 5 through Thursday, June 11; at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 7.
The Harbor Theatre is located at 185 Townsend Avenue in Boothbay Harbor, in the mall across from Hannaford. For more information, call 207-633-0438 or visit www.harbortheatre.net.
