Crocker takes ‘triple crown’ at MVCs
Week after week, throughout this outdoor track and field season, Boothbay Region High School senior Morgan Crocker has turned in one amazing performance after another.
Crocker has dominated the competition in both hurdle events and the triple and long jumps. This week, Crocker won three out of the four events she competed in at the Mountain Valley Conference Championship meet and for the second consecutive year was named MVC Track Athlete of the Year. She was the only athlete to take home three championship titles at this year’s MVC event.
Coach Nick Scott said Crocker was also well on her way to winning her fourth event at MVCs until the final hurdle.
“Morgan won the 100m hurdles, the long jump, the triple jump, and was winning the 300m hurdles until she got tripped up on the last hurdle and fell to the ground,” Scott said. “She was beating the Lisbon girl by at least .5 seconds then tripped over the last hurdle fell and got up as quick as she could to score a 2nd. She would have easily been under 50 seconds though, which is one of her goals.”
Despite the fall, Crocker finished only a half second behind Lisbon’s Chase Collier, at 50.77.
Hannah Morley won the only other BRHS MVC Championship title this week. Morley won the 1600m run, setting a new PR at 5:42.03. Morley also placed 5th in the 3200m run and 6th in the 800m race.
Scott said he was pleased with everyone’s efforts.
“Lots of really good stuff happened at the MVCs. Both teams scored more points than they were seeded to score. The boys' team was hoping to catch Madison, but they, too, exceeded the amount of points they were seeded to score. There were a lot of individual highlights during the meet, but perhaps the biggest was the awarding of Athlete of the Year to Morgan Crocker for the second consecutive year,” Scott said.
Both BRHS teams placed third at the MVC championship. For the boys, Lisbon dominated the field with 216 points, followed by Madison, 77.5, BRHS, 70, Telstar, 54, Mountain Valley, 46, Monmouth, 40, Dirigo, 30, Oak Hill, 28, Winthrop, 27.5, Hall-Dale, 18, Mt.
