Girls tennis awards presented
Alex Arsenault completed his eighth year of coaching the Boothbay Region High School girls tennis team by handing out individual awards at a gathering of players and parents on Monday, June 15 at BRHS.
Arsenault commended the "young" team, which finished 7-5 overall and was made up of three freshmen, Denise Stover, Eve Dolloff and Madison Gaudette; one sophomore, Emma Rideout; four juniors, Mackenzie Colby, Anna Baumm, Angela Machon and Ellie Demmons; and one senior, Chloe Hoecker.
"They were inexperienced at the positions I played them in, but it was one of the most athletic teams that I've coached," Arsenault said.
After reviewing the season and pointing out the good matches that each singles player or doubles team had, Arsenault said his players learned a lot about the game as the season moved on.
"They learned how tough tennis can be, physically and mentally," Arsenault said. "If you (players) put in the time to practice, you will only get better. I think the future looks bright for you all."
Colby, who played first singles, was named to the Mountain Valley Conference first team. She had a 7-5 record during the season.
Singles players Baumm, who finished 6-6, and Machon, 7-5, were named MVC honorable mention players.
Receiving the team's most improved player plaque was Rideout; presented with the team's coach's award was Baumm; and getting the most valuable player award was Machon.
