Boothbay edges Winthrop 2-1
The Boothbay Region Seahawks field hockey team improved to 5-7 and pretty much assured themselves a spot in the Class C North playoffs with a 2-1 victory at home over the Winthrop Ramblers on Monday, Oct. 5.
Boothbay, which avenged a 3-1 loss at Winthrop on Sept. 11, got a goal in each half. At the 3:10 mark of the first half, sophomore Page Brown pushed the ball into the net from about three feet away on an assist from senior Nicole Rice. In the second half, following a corner hit, sophomore Sydney Meader scored from about 10 feet from the goal line on an assist from Brown.
Winthrop’s goal by Emily Molino was scored with just seven seconds to play in the game.
Winthrop dropped to 7-4-1 with the loss and is currently in third place in Class C North. Boothbay is in seventh place in the division.
At Dirigo on Friday, the Seahawks lost to the Cougars, 4-2.
After a rescheduled game on Wednesday at Hall-Dale (0-12), the Seahawks are scheduled to host Telstar (3-8) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. on Perkins Field in the team’s homecoming game and final regular season game. Team seniors will be honored before the game.
