Team looks to go deeper into the tournament
Lady Seahawks basketball looks to build upon the success it had coming off an outstanding 17-1 season. Last February, the defending Mountain Valley Conference champions' playoff journey came to an abrupt halt at the hands of the Madison Bulldogs in the quarterfinals.
This season, the team has aspirations of writing a different story, with goals of going deep in the tournament and bringing home some hardware. With a great returning core and some key newcomers, the Lady Seahawks may just have the right cast.
Hannah Morley, 5’8” guard, Sr.
A four-year varsity player, Hannah has done a little bit of everything. From playing point guard her freshmen year, a forward her sophomore year, and embracing the role of sixth man as a junior, Hannah will finally slide into her natural shooting guard position. The team’s sole senior leader, look for Hannah to have a breakout season.
Kate Friant, 5’8” guard, Jr.
A three-year varsity player, Kate runs the show playing the point guard position. Her length at that spot allows her to see over traps and makes it difficult for teams to press. This season, look for Kate to take a bigger offensive role with an improved outside shooting touch.
Nicole Clarke, 5’11” forward, Jr.
A three-year varsity player, Nicole provides a good defensive presence and is one of the team’s best rebounders. She has the mobility to guard a variety of players, and has excellent timing with her shot blocking ability.
Alexis Welch, 5’10” forward, Jr.
A three year varsity player, Alexis will add some depth to the front court for the Lady Seahawks this season. She has a great shooting touch, and is improving her range out to the 3-point arc.
Angie Perkins, 5’11” forward, Jr.
A two-year varsity player, Angie is arguably the best athlete on the team. Able to run the floor and finish in transition, Angie also brings a lot to the defensive end with her quickness and leaping ability.
Page Brown, 6’0” forward, So.
A two-year varsity player and an All MVC First Team selection as a freshmen, Page will be a dominant force inside for the Lady Seahawks. With the ability to finish around the basket with either hand, sometimes the only way to stop Page is to foul her. The thing is, she’s an excellent free throw shooter as well.
Sydney Meader, 5’8” guard, So.
A two-year varsity player, Sydney adds depth to a formidable back court. An elite athlete who loves to play defense, Sydney will play both guard positions, and is also one of the team’s best passers.
Jo Shaw, 5’9” forward, So.
A first-year varsity player, Jo will swing and provide a post presence for the JV team as well. An extremely hard worker, Jo is just starting to scratch the surface of how good she can be.
Sydney Mercier, 5’3” guard, So.
A first-year varsity player, Sydney is in the process of rehabbing an ankle injury. Once healed, she provides a tremendous amount of quickness on the defensive end. Sydney will also swing and play some point guard on the JV team.
Tori Morin, 5’2” guard, So.
A first-year varsity player, Tori is developing her skills an adjusting to the speed of the varsity game. She will swing, and provide the JV team with some solid shooting and ball-handling ability.
Faith Blethen, 6’2” guard-forward, Fr.
A first-year varsity player, Faith is a special talent. Extremely versatile with the ability to handle the ball on the perimeter or score inside, look for Faith to make an immediate impact on the varsity team.
