Seahawks win three, now 3-2
Senior center Abel Bryer had a great week, scoring 63 points in three games in leading the Boothbay Region High School varsity boys basketball team to a 3-0 record during the past week.
Bryer scored 19 in Boothbay's 72-35 victory over Mt. Abram at home on Dec. 9, 21 in the Seahawks' 57-54 win at Madison on Dec. 11, and 23 in the home team's 80-56 win over Telstar on Dec. 14.
Boothbay junior forward Jacob Leonard also helped the team improve to 3-2 on the season by scoring 17 against Mt. Abram, nine against Madison and 20 against Telstar.
Seahawk junior forward Carter Babcock came off the bench to score 11 points in the hard-fought win at Madison and Coach I.J. Pinkham is also getting consistent scoring from his sophomore point guard Kyle Ames. Ames scored in double figures (14) for the third time this season against Mt. Abram, after scoring 11 against Dirigo and 28 against Wiscasset.
Regarding the three game win streak, Pinkham said, "We are playing better. We are now getting solid games out of Abel and Jacob with contributions from many others. Abel is getting into shape and rebounding well. The Madison game was the big one — we pressed the entire game and got good contributions from the bench. Our transition game has been good lately as (senior) Dan (Drummond) and Kyle are doing a nice job pushing the ball. We should improve as the players get use to their role and understand what we are trying to do."
