Meghan Smith selected to all-conference team
Meghan Smith of Boothbay, senior forward on the University of Maine at Farmington women's basketbball team, was honored with a First Team All-Conference selection, which was announced by the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) office Wednesday, Feb. 24. NAC All-Conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches.
Smith was one of the top scorers and rebounders in the league this season. The senior shot a conference-best 52.0 percent from the floor and made 141 free throws, which is four shy of tying a single season record at UMF. She averaged 15.6 points and 10.4 points in her final season, which led the Beavers and was second in the conference.
While averaging a double-double this season, Smith posted an impressive 16 double-doubles on the year. On November 23 against Saint Joseph’s, she set a career-high and tied a single game record with 22 rebounds. Later in the season against Maine Maritime, the Boothbay native grabbed 19 rebounds, which is tied for the third-most in a single contest.
She netted a career-high 27 points in a Senior Day battle with Husson on Feb. 20. Smith reached double figures in every game after the season opener at the Emerson Tip-Off Tournament.
Smith’s accomplishments were highlighted with four North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week awards.
Smith closed the books on her career with 753 rebounds, which ranks seventh all-time, and 972 points, which stands at 16th all-time.
