Meghan Smith on state coaches association's all-star team
University of Maine at Farmington senior forward Meghan Smith of Boothbay earned Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Second Team All-State honors on Wednesday, March 9.
MWBCA All-State selections are determined by a vote of the state’s head women’s basketball coaches.
Smith averaged a double-double this season with 15.6 points and 10.4 rebounds in her final season as a Beaver and ranked second in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). Smith posted an impressive 16 double-doubles on the year. On November 23 against Saint Joseph's, she set a career-high and tied a single-game record with 22 rebounds. Later in the season against Maine Maritime, Smith grabbed 19 rebounds, which is tied for the third-most in a single contest
Smith was one of the top scorers and rebounders in the NAC this season. The senior shot a conference-best 52.0 percent from the floor and made 141 free throws, which is four shy of tying a single season record. She set a UMF single-season record with 209 free throw attempts.
She netted a career-high 27 points in a Senior Day battle with Husson on February 20. Smith reached double figures in every game after the season opener at the Emerson Tip-Off Tournament.
Smith's accomplishments were highlighted with seven MWBCA Weekly Honor Roll selections, a NAC First Team All-Conference recipient, and four North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week awards.
Smith closed the books on her career with 753 rebounds, which ranks seventh all-time, and 972 points, which stands at 16th all-time.
