It’s about bags for 'sail'
The Boothbay Sea and Science Center is pleased to announce that it has been selected as a beneficiary of the Boothbay Harbor Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program for the month of April 2016. This exciting program has been designed to support local nonprofits like the Boothbay Sea and Science Center. For every blue Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag with the good karma messaging purchased at the Boothbay Harbor Hannaford supermarket, located at 180 Townsend Avenue, BSSC will receive a $1 donation in order to help fulfill its mission of advancing sailing, boating and ocean sciences by minimizing economic and physical obstacles and further to develop independence, self-confidence, teamwork and volunteerism in the participants. To inspire individuals to strengthen themselves and their community through the enjoyment of the sea.
“The Boothbay Sea and Science Center is honored to be chosen by the Boothbay Harbor Hannaford store as the non-profit beneficiary for the month of April. We believe that BSSC is a perfect match for this program. At BSSC we teach youth ages 5 to 17 responsible stewardship of the ocean where paper and plastics seem to find their way and account for a large portion of marine debris collected and recorded.” said Pauline Dion , BSSC president and executive director.
According to Dion, "Hannaford’s goal is our goal — to reduce needless paper and plastic bag use. We believe that our community grows stronger when we work together. At the Boothbay Sea and Science Center we’re Committed to Community.
“A very special thank you to Hannaford Supermarket for their vote of confidence, overwhelming support and the privilege to be counted among the community non-profits they recognize through this program,” said Dion.
BSSC has a goal of raising $1,000 during the month of April as a beneficiary of the program, which is equivalent to 1000 bags bought in support of the cause. All proceeds from the sale of the bags will go to fund the Boothbay Sea and Science Center’s Financial Assistance Program that promises to leave no child sitting on the dock.
