Season finale: Paul Doiron May 13

The Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library’s season’s finale of literary luncheons will be held Friday, May 13, 11:30 a.m., with award-winning crime series novelist, Paul Doiron. A book signing will follow the presentation.

Paul Doiron is the author of the Mike Bowditch series of crime novels, including “The Poacher's Son,” which won the Barry Award and the Strand Critics Award for Best First Novel and was nominated for an Edgar Award, an Anthony Award, a Macavity Award, and a Thriller Award for Best First Novel, and the Maine Literary Award for "Best Fiction of 2010." PopMatters named it to its Best Fiction of 2010 list. 

His second book, “Trespasser,” won the Maine Literary Award, was an American Booksellers Association Indie Bestseller, and has been called a "masterpiece of high-octane narrative" by “Booklist.” The third novel, “Bad Little Falls,” was a Bookscan Bestseller and a nominee for the “RT Reviewers” Choice Award and the Maine Literary Award. “Massacre Pond,” the fourth in the series, was an Indie Next pick and an Indie Favorite, as well as Bookscan Bestseller, and Maine Literary Award finalist.The Bone Orchard” received a Best of Maine award fromDown East.“The Precipice was a LibraryReads selection and a RT Top Pick. The seventh Mike Bowditch novel, “Widowmaker, will be published on June 14. His novels have been translated into 10 languages.

Registration for the May 13 presentation is required. Bring your own lunch or reserve a $10 bagged lunch, catered by the East Boothbay General Store, due at registration. Seating is limited. Registration closes May 12. Call 633-3112 for more information.

Immigrant Ancestor Research with Kathleen Maclachlan, Wed, May 18, 5:30-6:30 p.m., upstairs Community Room. Learn how to delve into U.S. sources to begin a search into immigrant ancestors’ lives here and abroad. Following this brief presentation, there will be a discussion on how interested patrons might organize a genealogy group to meet regularly at BHML. Seating is limited; registration recommended.

French Conversation meets the last Monday monthly, May 30, with the new time of 2 p.m. Facilitator: Janet Blevins, janetblevins@gwi.net.

Children’s Story Hour each Friday and every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month, 10 a.m.
