Track teams third at MVC meet
The Mountain Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship was held on May 26 in Lisbon, where both home teams captured the MVC titles. Boothbay Region High School track teams did well, both finishing third.
For the women, Lisbon finished first with 134.5 points, followed by Monmouth Academy, 93, BRHS, 87, Hall-Dale, 47, Dirigo, 44, Winthrop, 38, Mountain Valley, 38, Telstar, 36, St. Dom’s, 32, Carrabec, 31, Mt. Abram, 29.5 and Wiscasset, 29. Lisbon men scored 122.5, followed by Mountain Valley, 86.75, BRHS, 65, Monmouth Academy, 60, Hall-Dale, 60, Madison, 56.75, Winthrop, 52, Carrabec, 33, Dirigo, 31, Wiscasset, 30.75, Telstar, 26.75, Mt. Abram High, 12 and St. Dom’s 8.5.
Several BRHS athletes had outstanding performances, finishing in the top five overall.
Abel Bryer won both the discus (117-0) and javelin (147-00) events and finished fifth in the shot put (38-06). Angie Perkins took first place in the high jump (4-10), second in the 400m dash (1:01.37) and third in the 200m dash (28.38). Hannah Morley placed second in the 1600m (5:52.54) and 3200m (12:48.86) races and third in the 800m run (2:36.65).
Samantha Carter placed second in the 1600m racewalk (9:03.7), Lisa Pawlowski third in high jump (4-06), Loren Genrich third in long jump (14-10) and Olivia Paolillo fifth in 300m hurdles (55.91). Shane Johnson finished third in discus (110-02) and Draco Peaslee was fourth in the 200m dash (24.29) and fifth in the 100m (11.95).
Outdoor track and field’s season finale, the state championship meet, will be held in Dover-Foxcroft on June 4. BRHS’s top track athletes will be competing.
