Seahawk athletes excel at states
The Maine high school track season ended on a high note at Foxcroft Academy on Saturday, June 4 with a strong showing by Boothbay Region High School athletes.
Coach Nick Scott said in an email that the event concluded a terrific season, “We had nearly half of our team qualify and compete at the state championships, which is a really big deal.”
HIghlighting BRHS’s day were four athletes who performed well enough to earn a place at the podium.
Topping the list were Angie Perkins and Abel Bryer, who both finished second for Class C in their top events. Perkins took the number two spot in high jump (4-10) and also placed third in the 400m dash and ninth in the 200m dash. Bryer threw 151-08’ in discus to clinch second place and also placed eighth in the shot put. Shane Johnson placed fifth in discus and Samantha Carter finished fifth in the 1600m racewalk.
Other top BRHS finishers were Morgen Wilson, 11th, 1600 race walk, Jacob Leonard 13th, 300m hurdles, Blake Erhard, 10th, 3200m run, Hannah Morley, 11th, 1600m run, and Lisa Pawlowski, 10th, high jump.
At an awards ceremony at BRHS on June 6, Coach Scott recognized the season’s special achievements. For the girls team, Perkins was named Most Valuable, Carter, Most Improved and Morley received the Coach’s Award. For the boys, Bryer was named Most Valuable, Draco Peaslee, Most Improved and Johnson received the Coach’s Award.
