Boothbay YMCA kicks off summer camp
Boothbay Region YMCA kicked off its annual summer camp program at Knickerbocker Lake on June 20. Under the careful watch of co-camp directors Emily Mirabile and Joe Clark, the 120 or so campers began the day with a team-building exercise, a dance routine, and met their camp counselors before descending en masse to the field to raise the American flag.
“Today we are going to play a lot of get-to-know-you games to get the kids comfortable,” said Mirabile. “Then we will rotate sports, arts and crafts, swimming and boating.”
The Boothbay YMCA has been hosting the day camp on Knickerbocker Lake for well over 30 years, said Val Gamage, camp registrar. In addition to the traditional summer camp activities, the camp will offer unconventional options such as a culinary workshop with Boothbay-based restaurants and digital media through a partnership with Boothbay Region Community Television.
The majority of participants are from the Lincoln County area, said camp officials.
The summer program continues through August 26. For more information visit www.boothbayregionymca.org
