Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club hosting schooner America August 12
The Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club in West Boothbay Harbor will host the schooner America during her East Coast Tour on Friday, August 12.
Join the 139-foot yacht America as she embarks on a North American voyage as the official ambassador of The America’s Cup. America is a replica of the vessel that started the America’s Cup tradition in 1851 by defeating the best the British could offer to win the Royal Yacht Squadron’s “100 Pound Cup.”
The public, BHYC members, and BHYC guests are invited to participate in the following events and experience this part of maritime history. All events are free except for the afternoon sail and dinner.
Tours Aboard America: Free tours aboard America on her mooring from 10 a.m. to noon. Tender service will be from the BHYC dock. Call the BHYC to reserve a spot, 207-633-5750.
America's Cup Presentation and Discussion with America's Captain, Troy Sears; 12:30 -1:30 p.m. in the BHYC Casino: Captain Sears's free presentation covers the past, present and future of the America’s Cup. Learn more about the yacht America, the history of the America's Cup, and the future of the sport, including the current use of multi-hulls and the venue selection of Bermuda. Sailing Tour Aboard the America: 2 to 5:30 p.m. Please arrive promptly; tender service to America will leave from the BHYC docks after you have checked in. Tickets: $85 adults and $42.50 children (17 and under). Register online for this tour. Post-Cruise buffet dinner at BHYC: Join us for a Post-Cruise buffet dinner in BHYC's waterfront dining room, 6 to 8 p.m. Italian Buffet - $25 including tax and tip, beverages additional cost. Menu to include: Antipasto, Pasta Station – Choice of pasta and sauces, Chicken Parmesan, Stuffed Seafood Shells, Broccoli Rabe and Tiramisu. Call the BHYC for reservations, 207-633-5750.
