Boothbay Regatta July 30-31
Sailboats from all along the Maine coast will converge on the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club this weekend (July 30-31) for the annual GMORA Boothbay Regatta, This is the 42nd consecutive year of this event which was started by the late Dr, Jack Wells of Squirrel Island.
Over 30 sailboats of all sizes and sail configurations will rally at the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club on Saturday morning for the skippers meeting and sail instructions by certified PRO ( Principal Race Officer) Charles Barclay.
Races will be conducted in the outer harbor and around the islands on courses dictated by the wind directions and speed. While the best way to observe the races will be from the water there will be an opportunity to see the boats under sail from Spruce Point and from the Maine State Aquarium area.
Racing will start about 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Awards and trophies will be presented Sunday evening at the Yacht Club. The Regatta is a featured race on the GMORA ( Gulf of Maine Racing Association) Circuit.
