LCCT to hold season auditions Sept. 6 and 8
Lincoln County Community Theater (LCCT), the resident theater company of the Lincoln Theater, will be holding open auditions for its upcoming season on Tuesday, Sept. 6 from 5-7 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 8 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Porter Hall at Skidompha Library, 84 Main Street, Damariscotta.
The season will open in November with a production of Christopher Sergel’s stage adaptation of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” based on Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Nov. 11-13 and 18-20. Set in the Deep South, the play sees racial injustice envelop a small-town community. Through courage and compassion, lawyer Atticus Finch seeks the truth, and his feisty daughter Scout, a young girl on the cusp of adulthood, brings new hope to a neighborhood in turmoil. The production requires a cast of 16, including roles for two young boys, a young girl, and three African American actors.
LCCT will also be casting for the third season of our play reading series, “Sundays Without Scenery.” The semi- staged readings are presented for two performances each on Sundays throughout the year. Titles currently being considered include:
- David Lindsay-Abaire’s “Good People,” a play set in South Boston that explores the struggles, shifting loyalties and unshakeable hopes that come with having next to nothing in America.
- Lindsay-Abaire’s new play “Ripcord,” a high-stakes comedy about two women of a certain age locked in a no-holds-barred “battle-to-the-death” to hold onto a single room in the Bristol Place Assisted Living Facility.
- Donald Margulies’ “Dinner with Friends,” a turbulent meditation on the minefield of middle age
- Ken Ludwig’s play with music “Sullivan and Gilbert,” which takes place at the Savoy Theatre in 1890. Gilbert and Sullivan, who have been feuding for years, are forced to work together one more time; Queen Victoria commands a performance of their most popular songs.
- Kenny Finkle’s “Indoor/Outdoor,” a comedy about a house cat, Samantha who finds herself torn between her affection for a human companion, a nebbishy graphic designer, and her attraction to a sexy tomcat who invites her to sample the pleasures of the outdoor life.
- LCCT is also very excited to be presenting a reading of local playwright Daniel Wentworth’s “The Match Tin,” a play set in a hospital during the turbulent events of World War I where poets A.A. Milne and Robert Graves have been sent after incurring psychological injury.
LCCT plans to continue its winter semi-staged concert event with either Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Gondoliers” or another work from the classic American musical theater. Last but not least, LCCT is looking to mount a summer musical in 2017, the title of which still to be determined.
The theater hopes to see those of you who are well-known to LCCT and those of you have may have done some acting in the past, and those looking to “give it a shot.”
Interested actors who have a monologue and/or a song are asked to bring it along. The theater will also have audition scenes to be used and an accompanist will be provided. Please refer any additional questions you might have to lcctseason@gmail.com.
Parties interested in helping out backstage with scenery building, costumes, etc. are also encouraged to email at the lcctseason@gmail.com address. Curtain going up!
