Lady Seahawks edge Mountain Valley, 2-1
The Lady Seahawks field hockey team defeated Mountain Valley in Rumford, 2-1, on Friday to improve to 7-5-1, with one regular season game to play on Wednesday.
Sydney Meader scored both Boothbay goals. Her first came at 14:08 of the first half on an assist from Lilly Sherburne.
"Lilly had an outstanding game," said coach Donna Jordan in an email. "On our attack, Lilly carried the ball up the field inside the 25-yard line before passing to Sydney, who lifted the ball into the goal."
Meader scored again at 5:56. Jordan said the goal was set up by Chloe Arsenault who carried the ball on the right side of the field and sent a crossing pass to Meader, who again lifted the ball past the goalkeeper.
Mountain Valley's goal was scored by Marissa Crosby on an assist from Leigha Carrier at 8:26 of the first half.
Mountain Valley (4-10) goalie Alyssa Akers recorded four saves on nine shots. Erica Eames and her defense faced seven shots on goal, turning away six shots.
"Erica was not given credit for a save and this is a reflection on how well our defense played in the circle. Lexi Welch, Jo Shaw, Lilly Sherburne, Kylie Micheal, and Hali Goodwin were key in disrupting Mountain Valley’s shots which then allowed Eames to step up and clear the ball to teammates," said Jordan.
